About us

The Bendigo Chorale is a four-part community choir based in north central Victoria. Each year we present several concerts, performing works in a range of styles and from various periods, Renaissance to the present. As well, we participate in community events and collaborate with other local and regional music groups.

Founded in 1957 by Mavis Webster as the Benola Singers, we are proud of our history of more than sixty years. In honour of our founder we make an annual award, the Mavis Webster Award, to a promising young singer from a local senior secondary school.

Since 2011, we have been led by the talented Elena Varshavskaya. Previous Musical Directors have been founder Mavis Webster MBE, local composer and musician Rohan Phillips, and Frances Monsbourgh.

The choir has been supported by grants received from Regional Arts Victoria and from the City of Greater Bendigo through its Cultural Grants Scheme.
